Whitefish Basketball Teams Sweep Eureka to Open New Year

It was the home opener for the Whitefish Basketball teams, Thursday night, as they played host to Eureka for the first games of 2025.

Both teams would come away with a sweep on their home floor.

This was the fist games of the 2025 New Year for the Dawgs as their games at Frenchtown last week were postponed due to the weather.

Both teams would show energy and enthusiasm in their return to the hardwood.

In the girls game, Whitefish would jump out to an early 15-5 lead thanks in part to Carmella Alfieri's first quarter buzzer beater.

Both teams would play and even 2nd quarter with each team putting in 15 points as the Lady Dawgs took a 30-20 lead into the halftime break.

The 3rd quarter proved to be the difference in this one as Whitefish scored another 15 points in the frame but held Lincoln County to just 4 as the Lady Dawgs extended their lead to 45-24 after 3.

The Lady Dawgs would take home the 54-30 victory, winning in their home opener.

Fresh off a career high 15 points against Glendive, Carmella Alfieri would lead the way with a career high 23, on the evening. Alfieri would make five made 3-pointers in the contest. Reese Hudson added 11 for the Lady Dawgs.

Allie Shors had 9 while Izze Short dropped in 8 and Charlize Ullrich had 3.

Eureka was led by Brynn Kossman with 12 points. Watch out for Kossman, she's going to be a force going forward. Only an eight grader, has already shows she can compete with varsity level talent.

With the win the Whitefish Girls Basketball team is now 2-3 on the season.

In the nightcap, the Whitefish vs. Eureka boys basketball teams would put on a show.

It was a back-and-forth game with Whitefish jumping out to an early 15-10 lead after one quarter of play. Eureka would respond with a 19 point second quarter. Right before the halftime buzzer sounded, Cooper Dudley would drop in a big 3-pointer to give Whitefish the 31-29 lead.

Like the girls game, the 3rd quarter proved pivotal in the boys game as well. Whitefish dropped in 21 points in the frame with the turning point seeming to be Carson Gulick's 3-pointer to put the Dawgs up 8, at that point. Whitefish extended their lead to 12 early in the 4th.

Lincoln County would then go on a 7-0 run but Whitefish had the answer as they knocked down free throws, protected the ball and made timely shots to collect the 69-56 victory.

Four players would score in double figures for Whitefish, while 9 total players scored.

Carson Gulick had 15 to lead the way.

    CJ Thew had 14.

Will Sisson dropped in 13 while Cooper Dudley had 10.

Scotty Dalen scored 8, Calvin Eisenbarth had 4, Jayke Thew and Reyd Hobart each had a bucket with Ryan Coklin scoring 1.

Eureka was led by Kyler Kossman with 20 while Tyce Van Orden had 16.

With the win the Dawgs are now 3-2 on the season.
