Dillon Narrowly Escapes Whitefish with Win Vs. The Dawgs

On Friday, the Whitefish Bulldog Football team played host to the defending State Champions, Beaverhead County.

The Dawgs would fall just short in a physical low scoring affair, 19-13.

In another grind-it-out game, the Dawgs would play in their most physical game of the season, thus far.

Dillon would strike first, scoring midway through the opening quarter, on a 29 yard Touchdown pass from Canin Christiansen to Ian Singleton.

Whitefish would answer late in the 2nd quarter with a Carson Gulick 1 yard touchdown run.

After forcing the Dawgs to punt, late in the half, Dillon would find the endzone with seconds to go, thanks to a 15 yard TD pass from Christiansen to Carter Curnow.

The Beavers would take the 12-7 halftime lead.

Dillon opened up the third quarter with a 3 play 64 yard drive, finished off by a Hank Hagenbarth 19 yard TD run.

Whitefish, on the ensuing possession, would strike back. Gulick found his top target, CJ Thew, the corner of the endzone on an over the shoulder grab to cut back into the lead, 19-13.

The defenses would reign supreme after that.

Late in the game Dillon would set up for what looked like to be the game sealing Field Goal. With a make the Beavers would go up 9 with just minutes to go. The Dawgs Jordan Harmon had other plans. Harmon would get the edge, racing around the line and blocked the field goal, keeping the Dawgs hopes alive.

What's a football game without a little controversy? Not long after the blocked Field Goal, Carson Gulick would throw his first of two interceptions. A holding flag was thrown as Gulick rolled out to the nearside before throwing the pick. As the Dillon returner raced down the sideline Gulick threw an absolutely crushing tackle and the returner appeared to fumble the football with the Dawgs recovering the football. However, the returner was marked down right near midfield and Beaverhead County kept possession.

With just under a minute of clock to go, the Dawgs forced a punt and the punter had the football snapped through his legs giving the Dawgs great field position at the opposing 35 yard line with 45 seconds to go.

On the ensuing play Beaverhead County would pick off Gulick for the 2nd time, sealing the game.

Whitefish finished the game with 273 yards of total offense while Dillon had about 286.
