Columbia Falls Downs Rival Whitefish, Sweeps Season Series

    It was a rivarly renewed, Friday night, as both Whitefish basketball teams played host to Columbia Falls.

    In the 2nd edition of the rivarly, this season, it was Columbia Falls coming out on top, to earn the season sweep.

    Friday's contests were the fifth games played in the last seven days for Whitefish.

    It was the girls up first.

    Columbia Falls raced out to an early 13-5 lead after one quarter of play. 

    At the half C-Falls added on to make it 21-9 at the intermission.

    C=-Falls would come out on fire in the thrid quarter as Taryn Borgen dropped in 16 points in the frame and the Lady Wildcats built a big advantage, 43-19 after three and went on to claim victory, winning 48-23.

    C-Falls was led by Borgen who had 25 points in the game, freshman Onnika Lawrence added 11.

    Whitefish was led by Bailey Smith with seven points.

    With the win, Columbia Falls improves to 7-8 overall, 6-3 in conference play.

    Whitefish falls to 5-9 overall, 2-6 in league play.

    In the nightcap, the boys would take to the hardwood.

    C-Falls would lead 20-10 after one quarter of play, as the Wildcats closed out the first frame on a 10-0 run.

    That 10-0 run proved to be the difference in teh game.

    Whitefish battled back but trailed 31-23 at the half.

    It was a back-and-forth second half wtih C-Falls leading 47-33 after three. The Dawgs just ran out of steam in the enbd as they fell 58-45.

    Columbia Falls was led by Jace Hill with 20 points. The Universtiy of Montana commit, Cody Schweikert, added 14.

    Whitefish was led by Mason Kelch with 16.

    Following all the action, C-Falls is now 10-5 overall, 8-1 in conference play.

    Whitefish falls to 8-6 overall, 4-4 in league play.

     

    Up Next: Both Whitefish Basketball teams will head to Browning, Tuesday February 6th, to make up some games that were postponed earlier this season.

    The boys will get the action underway first with tip-off at 5:45pm.

    The girls game will follow with tip-off at 7:15pm.
