Whitefish Basketball Sweeps Eureka to Close out 2023

    The Whitefish Bulldog Basketball teams were in Eureka, Tuesday night, to close out 2023 and came away with a thrilling sweep.

    It was the final games of 2023 and they did not disappoint. 

    Up first, was the girls who took on the Lady Lions of Lincoln County High school.

    Eureka would hold a slim lead after one quarter 10-9. Whitefish answered with a strong 2nd quarter outscoring Eureka 10-2 in the frame, behind outstanding play from Charlize Ullrich and Kamry Kelch, to take a 19-12 lead into the halftime break.

    The Lady Dawgs would add to it in the 3rd and extended their lead to 31-22 after 3. Whitefish led by double figures early in the 4th before Eureka came storming back.

    Bailey Smith knocked in a pair of clutch threes in the final frame and Whitefish held off a late comeback attempt to take the win 39-35.

    Leading the way for Whitefish was Smith with 14 points. Jude Perry dropped in 8 while Kelch added 6 off the bench.

    Eureka Lady Lions were led by Kara Stanger with 14.

    In the nightcap, it was the boys teams taking the floor and would send out the 2023 year in thrilling fashion.

    The first half was a tale of two quarters as the Dawgs jumped out to a 24-14 lead after 1.

    Eureka would answer right back outscoring Whitefish by 10 in the 2nd and it was all tied up at the half, 32 all.

    Whitefish would get back to their style of play in the 3rd quarter behind a dominant frame by Carson Krack and took a 46-42 advantage into the final quarter.

    The 4th quarter was the Mason Kelch show. After struggling all night, Kelch dropped in 12 of his 18 points in the quarter, knocking down three made 3-pointers. The Dawgs outscored the Lions 23-17 in the final frame and pulled away for the 69-59 win, handing Eureka their first loss of the season.

    Kelch and Carson Gulich led the way for Whitefish with 18 points each while Krack added 12.

    Following all the action the Whitefish Lady Bulldogs are now 3-3 on the season.

    The Whitefish Bulldog boys are 4-2.

    Eureka Lady Lions are 1-4.

    Eureka Lions are 3-1.

    Up Next: The Whitefish Basketball teams will be back in action to begin the New Year, Saturday January 6th, when they travel to Browing.

    The boys will play at 4pm with the girls to follow at 5:30. All that action will be hear live on 1240 Sam.
