Whitefish Baseball Buries Troy in Home Opener

    It was the home opener for the Whitefish High School Baseball Team, Thursday, as they played host to conference foe, Troy, at Smith Fields.

    On a cold, windy afternoon the Dawgs would take to Smith Fields for the first time this season and came away with a 16-1 victory.

    Whitefish led wire-to-wire in this one.

    Brady Howke got the start in this one, tossing 3 innings of 1 hit ball. He surrendered 1 run while walking 5 and striking out 5.

    The Dawgs got on the board early, scoring on a Christian Schwaderer RBI Single in the bottom of the 1st to take an early 1-0 lead.

    Whitefish capitalized on miscues all afternoon, all four of their runs in the 2nd came off either balks or errors committed by Troy.

    After Troy would get on the board in the top half of the third, the Dawgs would get the bats going in the bottom half of the inning as they tallied 6 runs on 4 hits. Drew Queen had an RBI single and scored a run while Tait Orme had an RBI single and Calvin Eisenbarth had a 2 RBI base knock.

    Whitefish would enter the 4th inning up 11-1 and scored another 5 runs to end the ball game. Otto Klein who replaced Brady Howke on the hill would get the game winning hit that put Whitefish up 15.

    Leading the way for Whitefish was Drew Queen and Christian Schwaderer who had 2 hits each. Queen scored 3 runs and had an RBI while Schwaderer had 5 RBI's.

    Whitefish totaled 11 hits in the game while Troy had just 2.

    With the win the Dawgs improve to 2-4 on the season, 2-1 in conference play.

    Friday- Whitefish plays Frenchtown at 7pm.

    Saturday- Whitefish faces Corvallis at 2:30pm.
