Bigfork Downs Whitefish Baseball, Errors Loom Large

The Whitefish Bulldog Baseball team returned to action, Tuesday afternoon, as they faced off with conference foe, Bigfork, at ABS Park in Evergreen.

This was a big conference game for both teams, looking for a marquee win to keep them atop a competitive Northwest "A" Conference.

Bigfork would get the upper hand, capitalizing on Whitefish miscues as the Vikings came back for the 6-4 victory.

Mason Lewis got the start for the Vikings and tossed a gem. He went the distance, throwing 7 innings of 7 hit ball. He gave up 4 runs (2 earned), walked 1 and struck out 5.

Bigfork would get on the board first scoring on an error. Errors were a common theme in this one.

Avery Caton would get the Dawgs on the board, in the top of the 2nd, laying down a fantastic Sac Bunt that scored Calvin Eisenbarth.

Both teams would exchange runs in the 3rd inning.

With the Dawgs down 3-2 entering the fourth, Whitefish looked to turn the corner. Back-to-back extra base hits by Brady Howke and Drew Queen gave the Dawgs the 4-3 lead after the top half of the fourth.

Bigfork, though, had an answer. The Vikings would tie up the game in the bottom of the 5th after a Whitefish error and took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th after multiple errors.

Brady Howke would get the start in this one, for Whitefish, and battled. He went 4 innings pitched, gave up just 2 hits, 3 runs (1 earned) while walking 5 and striking out 7.

The two teams would combine to commit 9 errors in the contest, 6 by Whitefish, 3 by Bigfork

Of the 10 runs that were scored just 4 were earned.

Whitefish totaled 7 hits while Bigfork had just 5.

With the loss Whitefish falls to 3-6 overall, 2-2 in conference play.

Bigfork improves to 4-1 overall, 3-1 in conference play.

Up Next: Whitefish will be back in action, Thursday, as they play host to Eureka. First pitch at 5pm.
